Last Post: Re-evaluate hydrogen investment

Andrew Forrest’s admission that Fortescue cannot meet its goal of producing 15 million tonnes a year of green hydrogen by 2030 underscores the challenge of commercialising green hydrogen. The government should demonstrate true stewardship of taxpayers’ money by thoroughly re-evaluating the green hydrogen investment.

Don McMillan, Brisbane, Qld

Andrew Forrest seems to have finally realised that the only “green” is the grass on the other side of the hill.

Australia’s power generation policy? Burn cash, not coal!

Chris Bowen’s plan to recruit people’s private vehicles to back up the grid in the event of a power outage has attracted mixed reviews as to its viability (“Bowen’s plan: EVs to charge homes and the grid”, 18/7). But the question that no one seems to be asking is, even if it were viable, does this seem like part of a robust energy grid that will make us a renewable energy superpower, or a Band-Aid solution to a problem looming on the horizon?

Am I missing something here? We charge our EV with power from our home, then power our home from our EV?

David Hill, Victoria Point, Qld

Apparently, it’s quite OK for the environment when gas is developed and produced overseas, then imported into Australia as LNG to meet our gas needs, but it’s not OK to develop and produce our own gas because it’s causing damage to our environment. Who would think that creating jobs and wealth overseas is preferable to creating jobs and wealth here?

Brian Barker, Bulimba, Qld

The problem for Joe Biden is that he says he’s all right now, but aged 81, will he be OK in six months or eight months? He concedes he doesn’t do things as well now as in the past, but what will he be like at 82, 83 or 84?

Francis Smith, Caulfield North, Vic

The media comes in for its fair share of flack – at times deserved – but regarding the CFMEU and those who have turned a blind eye, well might we say thank goodness for the fourth estate.

Deborah Morrison, Malvern East, Vic

Johannes Leak is a worthy successor for the cartoonist crown of his brilliant father, Bill. His cartoon for July 18 is worth many more than a thousand words.
