Last Post: Our health system must be above suspicion
With the strange attempted watering-down in some quarters of the horrific words of the two Bankstown Hospital nurses, it’s almost becoming a virtue if it transpires they hadn’t murdered anybody.

Australia: socially cohesive one day, multicultural the next. Poor feller, my country.

What we are trying to achieve, Senator Payman, is for all Australians to have complete trust in our health system and the conduct of its professionals.
Christian Kelly, Brisbane
Senator Payman, there is indeed a double standard. If a Christian had said about Muslims anything resembling what the two nurses had said about Jews, all Australia, including Christian institutions and Islamic religious bodies, would have joined together in its condemnation.

Muslim groups complaining that the nurses’ treatment has been weaponised should reflect that the climate in which their claims were received was created by people firebombing synagogues and daubing anti-Semitic graffiti about the place.

How many of the prominent Muslim individuals and community leaders who signed the communique in support of the Bankstown Hospital anti-Semitic nurses are women?
Greg Paull, Yallingup, WA
I felt despair and disbelief after reading the coalition of Islamic groups’ attempt to manipulate the media in relation to the Bankstown Hospital nurses’ online threats. The communique’s objective is to gain support and sympathy for the nurses and to turn the perpetrators of this vile hate speech into victims. We must cease being tolerant of the intolerant.
