Last Post: Green steel? Welcome to planet Whyalla
Anthony Albanese and Peter Malinauskas are on another planet if they think that Whyalla can be saved by producing green steel. Sanjeev Gupta tried and failed. Sadly, Whyalla could be a steel powerhouse, but only if it uses fossil fuels and not renewables for power. It’s so obvious, it’s embarrassing.
Ross McDonald, Gordon, NSW
On one hand we have Woodside and eucalyptus growers hamstrung by government departments, and on the other we see the SA state government and Albo applying their immense business experience skills in Whyalla.
Alex Cleave, Fremantle, WA
The Albanese government, not content to propose investing in a failing airline, is now investing our money in a failed steelworks. And it is from this shallow economic gene pool that union-controlled super funds draw their directors?
Bruce Watson, Kirribilli, NSW
I support the government’s putting money into the Whyalla steelworks but please don’t waste it on this fantasy of green steel.
Philip Squire, Ashgrove, Qld
The attempts to save steel at Whyalla may need more fool’s gold than even politicians could squander.

Anthony Albanese shows hypocrisy in expressing his support for Ukraine, which he failed to offer Israel – just another hollow promise. Did the Prime Minister clear his latest decision with Foreign Minister Penny Wong?

The only explanation is Putin has some very serious kompromat on Donald Trump.
GM Seabrook, Leasingham, SA
When it comes to negotiating with Vladimir Putin to achieve peace in Ukraine, one of Donald Trump’s enemies is the future. If Putin is later proved to have operated in bad faith, or began invading other countries, any deal Trump had struck with him would appear in a new light.
Patrick Ball, Fern Tree, Tas
Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin seem to regard Ukraine more as a business venture, regardless of the Ukrainian people’s national identity and ownership of their own territory. If Europe allows this to proceed there will be hell to pay further down the line.

Last election Labor promised to get Australia back on track. They didn’t tell us they had to derail the train first.
