Last Post: Optus, Optus, wherefore art thou?

I agree with the ADF. It would be most unwise to misgender a drone.

When needed, The Big Show shows up and puts on a show.

Optus, Optus, wherefore art thou?

Tim Fatchen, Mt Barker, SA

Our drone fleet should be renamed “crewless aircraft”, it rhymes better with “clueless ADF”.

Looks like YES has had another shocker

Is this the future we’re promised, power cuts as well as Optus outages?

Roseanne Schneider, Toowoomba, NSW

Thank you, Greg Craven (“Uni inquiry can’t allow blank cheques to ‘deserving rich’”, 8/11). On a difficult morning involving a car that refused to start, an unreachable NRMA (thank you, Optus) and a looming dental appointment, Craven’s blistering phrases cheered me up. “Just now, the tertiary buzzards flock mangily in the sky” deserves to be framed.

Helen Jackson, Higgins, ACT

Thank goodness we still have a journalist of Janet Albrechtsen’s talent (“Crisis of conformity quells clash of ideas”, 8/11).

Glenda Ellis, Drummoyne, NSW

Janet Albrechtsen says the ABC operates as a “kindergarten” .To my mind it is more like a sheltered “wokeshop”.

Noel Land, Nightcliff, NT

The Page 1 headline, “Who needs to take a second Gold Trip if you can win Cup again Without a Fight?” (8/11) is genius. It’s the best headline I can recall in many years. Kudos to the creator. There was another zinger on Page 7, “Big chill thaws, but PM doesn’t panda yet”. It’s almost too much to bear.

Tim Sauer, Brighton East, Vic

Your paper not only has the best journalists and cartoon presenters, it has the best headline producers. Today three great headlines on the front page alone. “Batting on: RBA up to 13 not out”, “Who needs to take a second Gold Trip if you can win Cup again Without a Fight” and “ADF ‘unmans’ its drone fleet”. Brilliant.

John Field, Coolum Beach, Qld

Before the accolades afforded Glenn Maxwell’s memorable World Cup double century settle down, we should not overlook the restraint and determination of Pat Cummins.
