Julia Banks has been well mentored by Malcolm Turnbull.

Julia Banks has been so badly treated that she has bitten the hand that fed her. Of course, in this #MeToo world she has not revealed the details of her shabby treatment; accusations are enough. She certainly has learned the ropes from her mentor, Malcolm Turnbull.

Denzil Bourne, Jerrabomberra, NSW

Does Malcolm Turnbull have any political skills apart from undermining his colleagues? That was how he got his seat, how he won the leadership and how he became PM. Can anyone think of any actual accomplishment? Oh, he did force us to use compact fluorescent lamps but, like the man himself, they are already pretty much obsolete.

Burt Bosma, Surrey Hills, Vic

It seems voters are going to punish the Coalition. How much of Labor will it take for them to realise they have punished themselves?

Graham Drury, Marian, Qld

Having been virtually blackballed by the NSW Libs, Jim Molan could honourably remove himself from the Senate ticket. But come the election, I am sure Scott Morrison would welcome dependable and capable reinforcements.

Elizabeth Moser, Newtown, Vic

I never realised the #MeToo movement had become a political party, but there they are, sitting on the crossbench. As far as the electorates they represent and the future of the country are concerned, well, apparently that doesn’t count, because now it is all about “me”.

Glenys Clift, Toowoomba, Qld

I sense the rising of a new force in politics, a sensible centre party with Julie Bishop, Julia Banks, Kerryn Phelps and Malcolm Turnbull as president and funder. It would attract a lot of support at the coming election as a party to hold the balance of power between the Labor-Greens and the conservative Right.

Ian Miller, Noosa Heads, Qld

All Liberals know from history that as soon as a budget surplus looms, they lose government.

Paul Haege, Darling Point, NSW

Fortunately, our youths are more politically and scientifically literate than voters or elected politicians. Our country has failed them by not funding science appropriately and being far too slow to act on climate change and our energy sources.

Ann Comino, Broome, WA

I agree with Mark Chapman (Letters, 29/11). However, before his students embark on their protest, I would ask them to define climate change, and to give a critical review of the hard evidence for and against. I have a feeling they would be unable to do either. The last thing students should be doing is engaging in uninformed protest.
