One migrant success story; one epic failure.

Sisto Malaspina: a migrant success story. Hassan Khalif Shire Ali: an epic failure. Gone are the halcyon days of Australia’s mixed-culture society. Sisto’ s name will be remembered with love and respect.

On this 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, I wonder what all of our fallen soldiers would make of the carnage in Bourke Street. Perhaps they would feel that their sacrifice, made to ensure a better and safer world, has been wasted by the failed policies of our politicians.

Geoff O’Brien, Eltham, Vic

We see a homeless man risk his life to protect the lives of others in Melbourne. I am reminded the Good Samaritan, risking your life to help strangers — actually taking risks to help your fellow human. Lest we forget what risk to help others in need really is.

Doug Steley, Heyfield, Vic

Scott Morrison’s comments on radical Islam following the latest terror attack in Melbourne — free of any PC nonsense — were very refreshing to say the least.

Donn Howe, Pymble, NSW

How can our PM be accused of dividing us when all Australians, Muslim and non-Muslim, should be against extremist crime?

Beth Johnson, Auchenflower, Qld

Colin Toll, Bywong, NSW

I like any politician who tells it like it is. They are rare people.

Neville Wright, Kilcunda, Vic

The Bourke Street terrorist had his passport cancelled — to what end? Instead of permitting him to travel to war-torn Syria where he may have met his fate, he was kept here so he could go on a deadly rampage.

George Fishman, Vaucluse, NSW

While expressing my sympathy to those affected by this terrorist act, the Coalition government must accept responsibility for its stupid decision not to let these radicals leave the country. Let them leave then cancel their passports and deny them re-entry, I say.

Bill Sisson, Naracoorte, SA

Put 100 genuine scientists in a room and ask them if climate change is real. Ninety-nine of them will say yes. Put 100 members of the parliamentary Liberal Party in a room and ask them why is Turnbull is no longer prime minister, and you’ll get 100 different answers.
