Chinese coal bid throws a spanner in the works.

I suppose it has dawned on the federal government that Chinese attempts to build two coal-fired plants in NSW is really an attempt to throw a spanner in the works of the federal election.

Hooray for the Queensland MPs who have finally had the guts to stand up and give us an alternative energy policy to the Labor-Greens recipe for disaster (“Nat MPs ignite energy war”, 7/3). Whether others in the Coalition have the same backbone we will soon find out.

Mark Postle, Mundubbera, Qld

We must congratulate the National Party members who have developed a cogent policy for energy. Now all we need is for them to include a withdrawal from the Paris accord and a cessation of subsidies for renewable energy and the policy would be complete.

Three terrific letters (6/3) in support of Australia’s adoption of nuclear energy. One noted the perennial roadblock — the response from the anti-nuclear lobby. Surely it’s time to pull this minority of rent-a-crowd Luddites aside and tell them where to get off. Then we can get on with it for the betterment of all.

Gary Carter, Leeming, WA

Has the Coalition lost the plot? It espouses free speech, but wants to prevent conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos from entering the country. At the same time it allows Muslim hate preachers to disseminate their odious ideology. If only there was a viable alternative at the next election.

Congratulations to the PM for opening Christmas Island. It was intimated when the medivac bill was passed there were 320 applications already signed for detainees to come to Australia for health issues. Now that Christmas Island is now open for business, I wonder how many of those “urgent” transfers will now eventuate?

David Stephen, Mudgeeraba, Qld

Australians are known worldwide for their ethos of giving people a fair go. Well here is our chance to validate that. We have had years of unstable government and huge debt. We are just seeing the light at the end of the tunnel so we can either enter another period of uncertainty or we can give Scott Morrison a fair go.

Carol Dunnet, Wanniassa, ACT

It is great to see hard-nosed policing in Victoria continues with banalities from the acting assistant commissioner spouting about “some degree of commonality” with the recent gangland killings. I would have thought the obvious commonality is that those shot are all dead and guns were used.
