Scott Morrison in denial about his thinning ranks

Scott Morrison’s optimistic reaction to the Liberal ministers and members of parliament who have resigned their commissions reminds me of the sketch in Monty Python and the Holy Grail where the Black Knight (John Cleese) in his fight with King Arthur is progressively injured. Despite the loss of his arms and legs he continues to maintain that “it’s only a flesh wound”.

I admire rats that leave a sinking ship. If you know a ship is going to sink, why would you stay on board?

Malcolm McMurray, St Ives, NSW

The three amigos (Abbott, Abetz and Andrews) must be starting to think mission accomplished.

Jeff Stokes, Largs Bay, SA

Now that the Abbott knifers are deserting the ship, it is an opportune time to put Tony Abbott into the cabinet. That might give the Coalition a faint chance of retaining government.

Owen Reid, Dunlop, ACT

Julie Bishop claims she could have beaten Bill Shorten. On present indications, Winx couldn’t beat him.

F. Horton, Adelaide, SA

Surprise, surprise, Cardinal George Pell was parodied at the Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras. If I publicly made fun of anyone in the LGBTI community, I’d be up in front of the Human Rights Commission.

Gerard Abrams, Cherrybrook, NSW

Please let’s not drag all Catholic religions into the abhorrent disgraceful behaviour of one of their leaders and label him properly as a Roman Catholic.

Eldert Hoebee, Torrens Park, SA

The court of public opinion is now in session. All rise.

Mike Fogarty, Weston, ACT

How refreshing it would be to wake up one morning to find that Bill Shorten had said anything, anything at all, in support of a government announcement or an encouraging report appearing about a new program. Hope springs eternal.

R.T. Hawksley, Benowa, Qld

After Bill Shorten’s disrespectful remarks about Christopher Pyne’s retirement would he please name the serving Labor politicians with 25 years of experience?

L.M. Silbert, West Leederville, WA

I applaud the decision by Christopher Pyne to resign from parliament. Does that mean we can now look forward to a sane submarine policy?

Greg Kater, Sanctuary Cove, Qld

Australian citizens they may be, but those jihadists captured in Syria will never be “Aussies” (“Nine Aussies captured in Syria”, 2-3/3).

Terry Birchley, Bundaberg, Qld
