Let’s hope Ita can keep the ABC stable

I note that Ita Buttrose intends to implement “proper stable management” at the ABC (“Ita Buttrose defends ABC against bias claims, promises ‘proper stable management’”, 28/2). This is welcome as there’s nothing more effective than corralling wild horses; let’s hope she has enough stablehands.

Memo to Pope: Francis, for God’s sake, allow priests to marry like normal human beings — or watch the Catholic Church slowly implode.

Cardinal George Pell is the Christ figure whose crucifixion takes away the sins of the Church.

Oscar Taylor (“Why didn’t George Pell go into the witness box”, 28/2), it’s called the presumption of innocence and it favours the “accused”, not the “criminal”.

Dominica Moar, Randwick, NSW

To those pushing Pell’s innocence: the jury has spoken.

Simon Benson’s story “Shipping ‘victims’ win huge payout” (28/2) shows exactly why we no longer have a national shipping line. The over-the-top pay and conditions demanded by the union led to the demise of the Australian national line. Shipping costs were so high that businesses wanting to send produce from Sydney to Melbourne sent it to New Zealand first by foreign-faring ships as it was cheaper.

Two articles about luxury cars with prices approaching Sydney property levels and potential top speeds of more than 300km/h (“Luxury marques on roller as car lovers snap up ‘toys’”, 28/2) . What I am wondering is where the proud owners drive these trophies. Especially the SUVs.

No, Ken Barnes (Last Post 28/2) you are not the only one to get these calls, but the never-ending texts and emails are worse Last year I “won” several Toyotas and a Mercedes as well as tens of thousands of dollars in gift cards from DJs, Myer, Coles and Woolworths. A number of parcels were waiting to be picked up from the post office and large sums of money were being held for me in various places. I particularly liked the claims that I had been caught on camera breaking the road rules in northern WA and western NSW on the same day, but best of all was the employee of the ATO who wanted me to send the tax I owed to a PO Box in New Delhi. These are surely too obvious to catch anyone but the latest is more subtle. At the end it states, “If you think this is a scam click here.” Really?
