Last Post: Bad boy behaviour at the French Open and ‘wage theft’

Just when I thought we were going to be treated to some professional tennis from our Australian men’s contingent at the French Open, that wish double-faulted when one half of the so called “Special Ks”, Thanasi Kokkinakis, made his appearance. His expletive-ridden display not only reduced his own reputation and credibility, but Australia’s as well.

Almost every day when I’m out and about in the car, or when I turn on the TV news I hear or see Anthony Albanese in some new overseas destination. Has he abolished the Foreign Minister position and added the responsibilities to his role as Prime Minister?

John Howard is fortunate to have Phillip Adams as a frenemy: Adams is the quintessential ABC archetype. Urban, sarcastic and as smooth as sour milk. Howard just gets things done, like gun control.

Creators and promoters of our national curriculum overemphasise the remembering and testing of prescribed content. Classroom thinking about content with more why and how questions is essential if learners are to create new ways of doing, making and using things in the future

Johannes Leak (3-4/6) reminds us of Churchill’s dictum: “We sleep safely at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would harm us.”

If countless companies over the past couple of years have been guilty of so-called “wage theft”, then there must be something seriously wrong with our pay rates award system? None of those affected would have created a policy to short-pay employees, so difficulty in interpretation of awards is clearly an issue. There is a call for an overall tax review, but a simplification of awards is long overdue also.
