Labor hiding behind the ICC

One wonders how the ICC would have treated Messrs Roosevelt, Churchill, Stalin and Eisenhower for the assault on Berlin during the dying days of WWII.

Martin Newington, Aspendale, Vic

Anthony Albanese’s fatuous statement that “there is no place for anti-Semitism in Australia”, while doing nothing to deal with it, sounds almost as sincere as his friend, former UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, and his almost identical statement: “There is no place in Labour for anti-Semitism.”

Alan Franklin, St Ives, NSW

How gutless of this government to hide behind the apron strings of letting the ICC “do its job”.

Alex Cleave, Fremantle, WA

Labor is said to enjoy greater support than the Coalition among public servants. Yet it’s Labor that’s prepared to jeopardise the earning potential of the fund created to meet the government’s future superannuation obligations to public servants. Oh, the ironies of politics!

Philip Temple, Larrakeyah, NT

So, Jim Chalmers, bleeding the Future Fund to subsidise Labor’s renewables folly is “modernisation”? George Orwell’s Newspeak would’ve been proud of that one.

Trevor Farrant, Hackney, SA

It would be hard to read The Weekend Australian and not learn something new. This week, thanks to Gemma Tognini’s column, I learnt that November 19 was International Men’s Day. Thanks, Gemma.

Steve Richardson, Mango Hill, Qld

Thank you, Gemma Tognini, for your column. Many young men have expressed concern to me that they’re considered lesser mortals today. While not perfect – who is? – I’m grateful to the men in my life. These International Days of “whatever” have gotten completely out of hand. Why not an International Day of good people?

Terri Jackson, Shepparton, Vic

Another great article from Chris Uhlmann in The Weekend Australian, in which he reports that Germany had to burn coal to keep the lights on when Russia invaded Ukraine. The only reason Germans had to return to fossil fuels is that Angela Merkel closed all their nuclear plants. Is there a lesson there for Australia?

Tim Napier-Munn, Bellbowrie, Qld

Jubilation among the Australians as they skittle India out in Perth. What do they say about pride coming before a fall?

John Sheldrick, Peppermint Grove, WA
