Is that you, Tony Abalone?
After Trump’s aluminium tariff, does MAGA now stand for make aluminium great again?
Tommy Puckett, Ashgrove, Qld
A masterful cartoon by Johannes Leak at the weekend, with Donald Trump’s PA calling Anthony Albanese “Mr Abalone”. I think “Tony Abalone” has a certain ring to it, and morphs nicely to “Tony Baloney”.
Tom Smith, Bowral, NSW
How typical. Albanese is now happy to commit ADF members to support Ukraine, but wouldn’t approve giving Ukraine equipment the ADF subsequently scrapped.
Stephen Phillips, Ridgewood, WA
If you’re against tariffs, by objective reasoning you must also be against protectionism. That’s why it’s ridiculous for Anthony Albanese to subsidise particular export industries in response to the Trump tariffs. Australia has the advantage of a weak currency compared to the US dollar. Australian manufacturers should supplement this advantage by looking to reduce their costs. A first step is recognition of the low productivity of Australian workers compared to their American counterparts.
Riley Brown, Bondi, NSW
You can sort of understand Donald Trump’s attitude. Virtually since World War II, the US has been the world’s policeman. They’ve made plenty of mistakes, but their intention was admirable. They’ve paid for everything and never been thanked.
Francis Smith, Caulfield, Vic
Anthony Albanese and Joe Biden have much in common. Both created massive bureaucracies to force woke agendas on to everyone, especially via education and workplaces, both increased union power and taxes, both pushed their economies towards bankruptcy through impossible renewable energy pipedreams and both were mostly asleep at the wheel.
Ian Brake, Mackay, Qld
Surely even Chris Bowen must be starting to see the fallacies in his energy policies, but can’t change now, and so continues to defend the indefensible at enormous cost to all of us.
Alex Cleave, Fremantle, WA
Given the government has approved an increase in electricity prices for big generators, why hasn’t it approved an increase for small domestic generators?
Wayne Brown, Queanbeyan, NSW
What a harrowing story of injustice by Janet Albrechtsen. My heart goes out to “Matt” and his journey of recovery.
Penni Seignior, Mudgeeraba, Qld
