NAB a focus of this week’s buy, hold and sell recommendations
National Australia Bank and Domino’s Pizza Enterprises feature strongly in new share market buy, hold and sell recommendations.
Great minds think alike they say, and this week our two Share Tips columnists have similar views on National Australia Bank: it’s time to take some profits.
Their “sell” recommendations for NAB focus on the big four bank’s vulnerability in a tough economic climate and fears it may fall further than other major banks if things turn sour.
They also share and identical recommendation for Domino’s Pizza Enterprises – hold – after long-serving CEO Don Meij decided to retire after 40 years with the company.
On the “buy” front, their tips ranged from beverages giant Endeavour Group to gold producer St Barbara Mines and four-wheel drive accessories company ARB Corporation.
Below are their buy, hold and sell recommendations.
Bell Potter private client adviser Chris Watt:
BUY
Amotiv (AOV)
The diversified industrial company is undervalued, with a strong balance sheet and increased international growth opportunities, positioning it well for further upside.
Endeavour Group (EDV)
A broad rebound in retail spending is anticipated, and Endeavour Group’s portfolio
of consumer-focused brands stands to benefit, offering an attractive entry point.
HOLD
Domino’s Pizza Enterprises (DMP)
Despite mixed market sentiment, the new CEO’s balanced approach and focus on improving customer insight and franchisee profitability make this stock a hold.
GPT Group (GPT)
Resilient occupancy rates and industrial demand, alongside a strategic shift toward funds
management, support a steady outlook for this real estate investment trust.
SELL
National Australia Bank (NAB)
While results met expectations, rising costs, net interest margin pressure and increased non-performing exposures raise concerns about valuation sustainability.
Bank of Queensland (BOQ)
Despite cost improvements, its revenue growth challenges and demanding 2025-26 financial year targets present downside risks.
CC Equities director Sean Conlan:
BUY
St Barbara Mines (SBM)
Its share price has fallen more than 20 per cent following a recent capital raise. The proceeds will be used to accelerate the Simberi Sulphide Project with first gold targeted for 2027.
ARB Corporation (ARB)
Declining vehicle sales over recent months, and further declines to come, should be offset by ARB’s strong order book, store investment and recent acquisition of MITS Alloy.
HOLD
Cochlear (COH)
The share price has declined 16 per cent since the annual result, on weaker-than-expected guidance, underperforming the ASX200 by 20 per cent.
Dominos Pizza Enterprises (DMP)
Potential strategy update will be key from here, with the business recently underperforming on store rollout and sales growth. We await further detail from the new CEO.
SELL
National Australia Bank (NAB)
In a slowing economic environment we think that NAB’s business mix is vulnerable, which could spark a greater-than-peers de-rating.
Beach Energy (BPT)
We expect macro concerns to weigh on energy equities, particularly those that need to do mergers and acquisitions like Beach. A smaller balance sheet and lower share price can make large transactions difficult.
