Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Wednesday, August 11. Australian stocks closed up 0.3 per cent, led by utility stocks. Wall Street mostly rose following US Senate passage of an infrastructure package.

The Dow gained 0.5 per cent, the S&P 500 increased 0.1 per cent and the Nasdaq dropped 0.5 per cent. European stocks closed modestly higher and oil prices rebounded. CBA unveils $6bn buyback as cash profit jumped 20 per cent.
