ASX live coverage: stocks set to rise; tech, Nvidia leads Wall St gains; oil prices drop

Local shares expected to open higher. Nasdaq leads broad-based gains in US overnight. Oil prices fall on uncertainty surrounding Chinese stimulus policy.

Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Tuesday, October 15. The ASX 200 is set to rise after Wall Street gained overnight, led by tech.

ASX 200 futures are 0.5 per cent higher to 8321 points.

On Wall Street, the S&P 500 gained 0.8 per cent, the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.9 per cent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.5 per cent higher.

US 10-year bond yields were 1.1 per cent higher to 4.118 per cent, with the bonds market closed Monday for the Columbus Day holiday in the States.

Oil prices are lower with global benchmark Brent at $US77.61 per barrel and WTI Nymex trading at $US74.02 per barrel.

Gold futures are down to $US2669.45 per ounce.

The Aussie dollar is trading around US67.25c.
