Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Thursday, August 14. The ASX 200 index closed 0.5 per cent higher to 8873.80 points after earlier reaching a new intraday peak of 8899.10 points.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 and the tech-focused Nasdaq indexes notched record highs for the second day in a row with small gains. The Dow Jones index closed 1 per cent stronger.
Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin was trading around $121,900 at 5pm AEST after reaching a record around $US124,200.
The Aussie dollar was trading around US65.41c.
