Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Thursday, September 11. The ASX 200 index closed 0.3 per cent lower to 8805 points on bank and health sector losses. SGH, Breville Group, Nine, Westgold and Kogan were among stocks trading ex-dividend.
In the US, the Oracle rally helped S&P 500 rise 0.3 per cent to a record close, but the Nasdaq index closed flat and the Dow Jones shed more than 200 points, or about 0.5 per cent.
Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin was trading around $US114,400 at 4.45pm AEST.
The Aussie dollar was trading around US66.09c.
