Car internet TV will be with us by 2016
AUSTRALIA'S future 4G networks could be streaming internet TV into cars as soon as 2016.
AUSTRALIA'S future 4G networks could be streaming internet TV into cars as soon as 2016, according to Sierra Wireless chief executive Jason Cohenour.
Sierra Wireless, which is Telstra's dongle provider, is of one the world's largest wireless broadband equipment makers.
Mr Cohenour said Sierra was conducting rollouts with Renault in Europe for in-car infotainment services and he believed the technology would eventually take off in Australia.
"Telstra has a growing machine-to-machine team, and we're talking to them about the relationships we have in automotive and it's certainly an area of interest," he said.
"It's just going to take a little time to develop here."
The equipment ecosystem and services would line up for deployments in car models released in Australia for 2015 or 2016, he said.
The infotainment services would be branded by carmakers rather than carriers or content owners.
