Bunnings and Officeworks set to join Flybuys in December

FlyBuys have expanded their rewards program to two major Aussie retailers just in time for Christmas. See what’s included.

‘The sooner the better’ for Christmas shopping amid global supply chain chaos

FlyBuys have opened up their rewards program to two major Aussie retailers just in time for Christmas.

Bunnings and Officeworks will next month join FlyBuys, in what Wesfarmers boss Rob Scott is calling a “great outcome for shoppers” ahead of the busy festive shopping season.

Starting early next month, Flybuys points will be able to be collected at the more than 350 Bunnings Warehouses and 170 Officeworks stores across the country.

Flybuys points can already be earned at 23 retail partners across the country – including Kmart, Target, Coles, Liquorland and Catch.com.au - and Mr Scott said the addition of Bunnings and Officeworks “significantly strengthens the program”.

“Not only is it an opportunity to earn more points at trusted retailers, but also an opportunity to redeem points through a much broader range of retailers [giving them] access to a whole lot of new DIY products and office and technology products that previously Flybys members weren’t able to redeem their points on,” he said.

The expansion came after customers indicated they wanted a broader range of stores in the scheme.

“It’s very much customer led so customers have been telling us and Flybuys members have been telling us that their two most preferred new members would be Bunnings and Officeworks. So this is responding to very strong customer demand. But also it’s an opportunity for both Wesfarmers and Coles to further strengthen our commitment and investment in Flybys,” Mr Scott said.

He expected Flybuys will continue to evolve.

“Bringing Bunnings and Officeworks into the program gives us the opportunity with Coles to invest even more in the program to improve the redemption opportunities, the customer experience and invest more in the technology solutions,” he said.

Coles Group Chief Executive Officer Steven Cain said the addition of Bunnings and Officeworks was a “gamechanger” for FlyBuys members.

“We know millions of our customers will be excited because Flybuys member research shows that Bunnings is the most preferred partner in Australia to join the program and we know that Officeworks is an essential part of helping Australians increasingly working from home. We look forward to continuing to support millions of Flybuys members receive more value from their purchases and deliver more opportunities to collect and redeem points in-store,” Mr Cain said.

The program, founded in 1994, usually gives a shopper one point for every $1 spent.

“We’re proud to welcome Bunnings and Officeworks into our coalition of partners,” Flybuys chief executive John Merakovsky said.

“We know that a vast majority of Flybuys members already shop at both retailers, which is an incredibly exciting opportunity for our eight million-plus members to collect more points where they’re already shopping.”

The announcement comes during an already-eventful week for Wesfarmers, with the $70bn retail and industrial conglomerate on Monday announcing it had all but secured the $760m purchase of the Priceline pharmacy network.

The deal for Australian Pharmaceutical Industries is expected to go through early next year.
