Dexus chief Darren Steinberg has been named the Urban Taskforce’s Person of the Year for 2019.
The chief executive of property development and investment group Dexus, Darren Steinberg, has been named the Urban Taskforce’s Person of the Year for 2019.
Mr Steinberg’s career spans three decades and includes leadership roles at companies such as Westfield, Stockland and Colonial.
Dexus appointed him to head its operations in March 2012 and he has since overseen the strategy shift back to core Australian markets and the delivery of award-winning properties such as 5 Martin Place in Sydney, 480 Queen Street in Brisbane and Kings Square in Perth.
The company dominates the listed office market and directly owns $15.6bn of office and industrial properties and manages a further $16.2bn of assets. Dexus has a $9.3bn pipeline that will drive its returns in future.
Urban Taskforce chairman Peter Daly praised Mr Steinberg for his contributions to Dexus.
“As CEO, Darren has led Dexus to an impressive position, building the group to $31.8bn funds under management and managing a portfolio of properties across the Australian office, industrial, retail and healthcare sectors,” Mr Daley said. “Dexus’s portfolio now includes 53 office properties, making it the largest office owner and manager of office properties in Australia.”
