Tim Gurner asking $15m for luxury apartment in St Moritz development

It’s home to famous sports stars as well as business and social elite and now the developer of Melbourne’s St Moritz, Tim Gurner and his wife Aimee have put their prestigious 500sq m apartment in the building on the market with a $15m price tag.

Gurner set a new price record for Melbourne in early 2019, securing a reported $30m for the seven-bedroom penthouse with two pools in the ultra-luxury St Moritz development fronting The Esplanade when former Domain boss Antony Catalano purchased it.

Meanwhile, Mr and Mrs Gurner’s two-storey, four-bedroom St Moritz unit featuring 6m-high ceilings was initially retained by the couple when the building was first launched.

In a press statement, the pair said the St Moritz development was considered one of the most desirable residential locations in Australia with “priceless views of the St Kilda foreshore and an unprecedented dedication to private amenity and wellness facilities”.

The four-bedroom, five-bathroom and a six-car garage property was one of 20 such residences in the St Moritz building that directly faced the bay with floor-to-ceiling water views and private lift access, they added.

The interiors have been customised and designed by Mr and Mrs Gurner, who is an interior designer, in consultation with the Gurner design team, to complement the building’s beachside feel, which was initially designed by architects Fender Katsalidis, Koichi Takada and interior designer David Hicks.

“When we launched St Moritz, we set out to create something that simply did not yet exist in the market, something that had no comparable sales or properties, something that was only emulated in five-star resorts in places like New York, Miami or London,” Mr Gurner said in a statement.

“After living through Covid, we as a community have turned to more intimate dining and entertaining with friends so the custom bar, games lounge and billiards table make the most of this incredible residence – why go out when the new owner can entertain guests at home while Port Phillip Bay shimmers in the foreground?

“My favourite element of the residence has to be the incredibly rare and sought-after double-height living and dining space that open up to the incredible bay and water views, which offer a front-row seat to some of the most breathtaking sunsets I have ever seen.”

Mr Gurner said the experience starts at the marble-clad lift lobby entrance, which steps out into an expansive 6m double-height void framing the kitchen, living and dining zones to maximise the waterfront views – a luxury claimed by only two other residences in St Moritz, according to a press statement.

Italian stone and marble frame the interiors. The residence’s Calacatta marble-clad kitchen island stands at almost 5m long, leading to a concealed 3.7m long butler’s kitchen.

The second living and entertaining space showcases a bespoke billiards table complete with custom finishes and design detailing, while the secluded games lounge is equipped with a kitchenette featuring integrated refrigeration.

A custom-designed helical staircase leads to the second level and is finished in polished plaster with a custom brass floating handrail. According to a press statement, the staircase cost $500,000 to install.

The master suite occupies almost the entire top floor, complete with a $120,000 sauna in the grand ensuite, a walk-in robe, study and private living retreat.

Mr Gurner expects interest from local and international buyers. He said the three bioethanol fireplaces cost $150,000 and were clad in feature stone and had been installed in the living/dining area, the games bar lounge and the executive bar. The sauna in the master suite cost $120,000 and more than $500,000 worth of marble had been installed throughout the unit, which includes a six-car garage.

Services available to residents include housekeeping and laundry, dog minding, laundry and car washing as well as catering.

The marketing agent is Gurner’s Deborah Wiltshire, general manager, retail sales.
