A sprawling estate south of Brisbane has been crowned Australia’s most popular home of the year on Realestate.com.au.

New data from the real estate portal has revealed a monochromatic luxury mansion on 2ha at Chandler, 13km south of Brisbane, was the most viewed property on the site in 2023, garnering 135,000 views since it hit the market in July.

Most of the top-viewed homes this year were located in the southeast corner of Queensland, and in Victoria.

PropTrack senior economist Eleanor Creagh said the most popular homes often shared common features such as architectural designs, beautiful gardens, pools, and large blocks.

“Australians are real estate obsessed, and many like to browse through the images to get a glimpse inside these incredible homes and properties of scale and magnificence,” she said.

“There are always going to be homes that capture people’s imagination and get many views, and many are the sort of homes most people only really dream about.”

The Chandler property, called Stonebrook and designed by New Zealand architect Sumich Chaplin, draws influences from Queenstown ski chalets and Singapore’s Raffles Hotel.

It features six bedrooms and six bathrooms, with a “Writers Bar”, Finnish sauna and dressage arena, and has a price guide of $18m. It has been touted to rival the new Brisbane record of $20.5m, set this year by a riverfront home called Amity in the inner-city suburb of New Farm back in April.

A property along the Yarra River in Melbourne’s Hawthorn that was listed for $22m to $24m ahead of it selling in June was the second most viewed home of the year with 82,000 website views, on a par with a circa $22m home that is still for sale in Sorrento, on the Mornington Peninsula.

The European-inspired 3520 Point Nepean Road, Sorrento, Victoria was equal second and is on the market for $22m to $24m.

A $70m waterfront mansion at Darling Point with views of the Harbour Bridge was the only property outside of Queensland and Victoria to make the top 10 list.

The oddity on the list was a joint listing for three one-bedroom apartments in the same Surfers Paradise building on the Gold Coast, which attracted 66,000 views due to the unique investment opportunity. All three apartments are currently on offer at $350,000 each.
