Sydney Airport Corporation has bulked up the accommodation offerings at Sydney Airport, yesterday opening a 136-room hotel to help service the 42 million passengers travelling through the airport each year.
Sydney Airport developed the new hotel to be managed by the listed Mantra Group. It will augment other on-airport hotels such as the Ibis Sydney Airport at the domestic terminal and Rydges Sydney Airport hotel near the international airport on Arrival Court.
Outgoing Sydney Airport CEO Kerrie Mather said the new hotel would improve the customer experience for airport visitors. She said the Mantra Hotel at Sydney Airport fronting Ross Smith Avenue near the domestic terminal would help meet the need for additional hotel accommodation.
Many of the Mantra Hotel at Sydney Airport’s rooms would overlook Sydney Airport’s runways, said Ms Mather, who had previously announced her retirement from Sydney Airport after 15 years in charge.
The Mantra Hotel at Sydney Airport’s competition will stem from the Ibis Sydney Airport, which is located on the domestic side of the airport, and Rydges Sydney Airport hotel near the international facilities.
More hotels are being developed around the airport to cope with demand. Accor operates the Mercure Sydney International Airport at Wolli Creek, while Meriton Serviced Apartments Sydney Airport are located a Mascot. Mantra shares are up more than 70 per cent since listing three years ago.
