Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz, the Mirvac chief executive, has spent $770,500 to buy a bolthole in Mirvac’s recently completed development in Melbourne, the Eastbourne, which boasts apartments in an “inner city Eden”. She has noted securing her mortgage had been a “painful process”. “It’s tortuous,” she says. The scrutiny can “get nonsensical”. Title documents reveal her banker is Westpac. The Killara-based Lloyd-Hurwitz had been known to be an off-the-plan buyer since the complex went up for sale in the pre-royal commission days of 2016. Buyers of the apartments have also included Mirvac director Elana Rubin, who spent $1.89m. There have now been calls for the Mirvac annual report to list such purchases in its related-party disclosure requirements. Mirvac argues no declaration about an acquisition is required because shareholders were on notice that directors had the opportunity to purchase apartments.

Cartoonist draws on modernism

Walkley Award-winning political cartoonist Paul Zanetti and wife Michelle have listed Eldorado, their Gold Coast hinterland estate. The couple had the Tallai home built in 2004 with inspiration of modernist homes in the Bel Air Hills and Palm Springs in the Hollywood Hills. They paid $170,000 for the 4ha parcel on The Panorama in 2001. The home has four bedrooms and a living space with a modern wet bar and a double-sided open fireplace separating it from the dining room. The living room flows to the wraparound terrace, which leads to the swimming pool and cabana, also with a bar. Queensland Sotheby’s agents Isaac Genc and Kelly Hutchinson have the listing. Zanetti won the Walkley Award for the best editorial cartoon at the age of 23.

Tarrants offer refreshed nest

Former Collingwood AFL star Chris Tarrant and his interior designer wife Lauren are set to flip their luxury Toorak home they bought just last year. Lauren oversaw the renovation after the couple paid $3,665,000 for a 2005-built family home. Now they’re asking between $4.9m and $5.2m, having updated the property throughout. The four-bedroom residence now has a modern marble kitchen with vast marble island bench and modern interiors. Kay & Burton South Yarra agent Andrew Smith is marketing the property. Tarrant played 196 games for the Magpies.

Karalee jewel up for grabs

Karalee, the long-time Victoria country retreat of the late master jeweller Gary Bradley has been listed for sale. The 13ha Hesket property in the Macedon Ranges, with panoramic view to Hanging Rock and the Cobaw Ranges, was bought by Bradley in 1987. He paid $250,000 for the estate with a late 1970s home. It was extended upstairs to create a retreat and master bedroom. A swimming pool sits off the four-bedroom homestead. There’s also a separate studio where Bradley worked for a number of years. Keatings agent Sandi Barry-Mueller has a $1.4m reserve. Bradley’s former Hardware Lane workshop has also been listed for sale.
