Markdel, the Mornington Peninsula thoroughbred facility owned by the horse-training Freedman brothers, is under offer. The 38ha Fingal property that brothers Lee, Richard, Michael and Anthony designed and built in 2002 had been on the market for almost two years. The Freedmans departed the farm in stages, with Anthony the last to go in 2012 when he moved his stables to Flemington. It’s the property where Makybe Diva prepared for two of her three Melbourne Cup triumphs. Markdel includes an 85-box stable complex, a 1200m sand-based grass track, an 1800m rising railed sand track and a heated horse swimming pool. Apart from the Melbourne Cup triumphs, many winners of other prestigious races trained at Markdel. Colliers International agent Shane McIntyre has being doing the marketing, without ever offering a disclosed price guide.

Windows of opportunity

A brand new Brisbane home complete with striking internal glass-walled garage has been sold. The contemporary Robertson home was built by commercial property developer Satomi Telecican as part of a subdivision project. The modern garage offers space for three cars, with one side sectioned off to provide a glassed gallery for showcasing your most prestigious motor right into the main entry foyer of the home. Set on 718sq m, the five-bedroom, five-bathroom residence was listed at $2.88m in September by LJ Hooker Sunnybank Hills selling agent Roxanne Liu. The price was reduced to $2.68m. It features a suspended concrete slab between its two levels.

Freight expectations

Freight tycoon Clive Thomas and his wife Lee have listed their Paradise Waters trophy home on the Gold Coast, complete with a private white sandy beach. They paid $6.5m for the waterfront in 2007. The home on 1375sq m spans 650sq m of internal space with four ensuited bedrooms. The property has been listed by Christie’s International agent Darren Curtis in conjunction with Platinum Residences agent Michael Vettoretto. The couple are best known for having spent $7.05m this year on the Bayview trophy La Joie de Vivre, better known as the original Bachelor mansion. They bought it from philanthropist and retired transport magnate Greg Poche and his wife Kay van Norton, who paid $10m in 2003.

Secluded sanctuary

Richard Umbers, the managing director at Myer, has bought a modern retreat in Shoreham on the Mornington Peninsula, which is set for its summer holiday’s christening following its purchase a few weeks back. Designed by architect John Lochhead, the home is suspended on ironbark posts alongside the tree canopy. It uses natural materials and glass to sit in harmony with its leafy surrounds and offers expansive views of the sea, across Honeysuckle Reef to Somers, Phillip and French Island. Set on 4500sq m, the home has six bedrooms and three bathrooms. Kay & Burton secured the $3.2m sale.
