Hemsworth brothers sell their Malibu holiday bolthole
The Hemsworth brothers have sold the sprawling California mansion they owned together, but for less than they first hoped.
The Hemsworth brothers have sold one of their international properties, a sprawling hacienda style mansion in Malibu, as they continue to concentrate their residential investments in the northern NSW bolthole of Byron Bay.
Actors Luke, Chris and Liam Hemsworth purchased the secluded white stucco home in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains in 2016, paying $US3.45m ($4.5m) and recently sold it for $US4.25m, according to Mansion Global.
The four bedroom home, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean, included a 750-bottle wine cellar, restaurant grade kitchen appliances and a home theatre.
It was used by the brothers as a holiday bolthole and to accommodate them for work and industry events when they were in nearby Los Angeles.
According to the marketing agents the property sported numerous Buddha statues, concrete floors and marble bathrooms. An outside dining area had dramatic views across the 1.3 acre property, Mansion Global said, adding that the Hemsworth trio listed the home back in September with a $US4.9m asking price.
Liam Hemsworth also recently sold his Malibu mansion at a multimillion-dollar loss. It was purchased for $US9.3m in 2014 and sold for $US4.9m. It was destroyed by fire in 2018.
In Australia, the Hemsworths are amassing a property portfolio around Byron Bay in northern NSW.
Chris Hemsworth recently put the finishing touches to his Byron Bay mansion which he developed on a site at Broken Head purchased for around $7m back in 2014. The home has since been demolished and rebuilt. The site now sports a $20m six bedroom mansion, with gym, steam room, media room and 50m rooftop infinity pool.
At the time of purchase seven years ago the site sported an eight bedroom and 11-bathroom property in a Balinese pavilion style.
At the time local agents foreshadowed that the Hemsworth purchase would send real estate prices in the region — which is popular with Hollywood stars — skyrocketing.
Indeed, just prior to Christmas a beach mansion in nearby Wategos, just outside the Byron Bay township, sold for a record $22m sight unseen to a Melbourne buyer, Rip Curl founder, Brian Singer, through Sydney agent Michael Coombs of LJ Hooker Avnu.
Byron Bay has an average median sale price of $1.87m while the average sale price for a four bedroom home is $2.35m, according to realestate.com.
