Brisbane Broncos boss Karl Morris has been revealed as the purchaser of the home-ground city’s most prestigious trophy home.

The palatial property built into the cliffs of Kangaroo Point at 1 Leopard St officially sold on Thursday after a lengthy and tumultuous settlement.

It took eight months for the inner-south riverfront six-bedder to go under contract in February 2020. At the time, Place New Farm agent Heath Williams said several offers had been received, with an unknown buyer securing the property. That buyer defaulted, which allowed Mr Morris to enter with an offer close to the initial asking price of $18m.

“It‘s a very special property and it has taken a very special buyer to purchase it. It needed someone with the means and vision to revitalise it back into Brisbane’s most luxurious property,” Mr Williams said.

Place New Farm director Judy Goodger helped broker the deal.

Leopard Street took the crown as the city’s most expensive home in 2017 when it was sold to Chinese buyers for $18.84m.

The architecturally designed three-level house offers 71.7m of uninterrupted views of the Brisbane CBD and river below and includes luxury additions such as a climate-controlled wine cellar and tasting room, fully equipped gym with Bisazza mosaic steam room and a soundproof cinema room with surround sound and big screen projector.

The purchase is the only other home in the city that could be considered an upgrade for Mr Morris.

He sold his riverfront home at 1 King Arthur Terrace in Tennyson in October 2019 in an off-market sale for more than $16m, Brisbane’s second-largest sale.

On the latest purchase, Mr Morris said finding the right property took time.

“We’ve been looking for a property in Brisbane for some time and this suited our family at this stage of our life,” he said.
