Viewers rise and retire with Seven

SUNRISE recorded its best audience for the year on Tuesday in the week prior to Network TenÂs breakfast relaunch.
A Katy Perry concert on the Sydney Opera House’s northern forecourt pushed Sunrise to an average 484,000 viewers across its three hours, a number likely to have pushed beyond 650,000 in the final 8am hour when the US superstar performed three songs.
It was a shot across the bow of Network Ten’s coming Wake Up, which launches on Monday in a week during which Sunrise will benefit from Seven’s Melbourne Cup Carnival coverage and as Nine’s Today begins its major prize giveaway. Today averaged 315,000 metro viewers yesterday.
And perhaps giving credence to the notion viewers return to the same station at the end of the day they began it on in the morning, Seven’s Million Dollar Minute rose to one of its best audiences (500,000), and Seven News topped the day with 1.170 million metro viewers.
Seven won the evening with a 24.2 per cent channel share ahead of Nine’s 16.7 per cent. Network Ten rose from its disastrous Monday with a 13.6 per cent metro channel share ahead of ABC1’s 12.1 per cent and SBS ONE’s 5.3 per cent. Dancing With The Stars skewed Seven older though; it had a 20.3 per cent share in 25-54 against Nine’s 19.5 per cent channel share and Ten’s 16.6 per cent.
Nevertheless, Dancing With The Stars held its consistent audience with 1.165 million metro viewers, up 30,000 on last week. It averaged 1.7 million viewers nationally.
Ten’s renewal was anchored by its US drama franchise NCIS. NCIS recorded its best audience of the year (870,000) and NCIS: LA had 517,000 viewers. Recipe To Riches held steady with 469,000 viewers.
Nine’s comedy starring Rebel Wilson, Super Fun Night, dropped another 120,000 viewers from last week to 562,000 while UK comedy Big School lost 76,000 viewers to 443,000.
