The Block checks back into ratings penthouse

THE Block Sky High returned to its penthouse apartment atop the television ratings last night.

THE Block Sky High returned to its penthouse apartment atop the television ratings last night.

Nine’s hardy stripped reality show rose to 1.355 million viewers last night without Seven’s upstart House Rules on the schedule.

It helped Nine to a metro win in all people with a 21.9 per cent share ahead of Seven’s 19.9 per cent and ABC1’s 13.5 per cent.

Ten had an 11.6 per cent share in all people and SBS rose to a 6.6 per cent share as the Aussie success in the Tour de France continued to pique interest in the late-night event.

Wimbledon viewing also pushed 7TWO to a 4.6 per cent share among the multichannels.

While Seven News ranked fourth for the night among all shows, its audiences in Sydney and Melbourne remain a concern with Nine News beating it by 138,000 in Sydney and 185,000 viewers in Melbourne.

Nine's best entertainment program after 7pm was a repeat of The Big Bang Theory, which grabbed 1.024 million viewers while Seven’s Home & Away grabbed another 940,000 viewers.

Nine also scored with US drama Arrow, which is holding its audience (800,000) against Seven’s Criminal Minds (742,000). Ten’s Offspring averaged 696,000 viewers but is not being helped by its lead-in, Masterchef Australia, which is bouncing between 600,000 viewers and 800,000 viewers (673,000). Seven’s The Mole might have expected something a little stronger against such competition, falling to 700,000 viewers last night.

The debut of ABC1’s comedy program Wednesday Night Fever was a bright spot for the network with 579,000 viewers, which was well up on that timeslot’s average for the year, and some positive social media chatter.

And on pay-TV, the bloody finale of the first series of local drama Wentworth approached its premiere audience (albeit across a number of channels and screenings), topping the platform with 125,000 viewers.
