Sweet success for Gruen Sweat
ABC TV show Gruen Sweat has won the prestigious Rose d'Or Award for Best Entertainment program presented by Eurovision in Brussels.
ABC TV's panel series Gruen Sweat has won the prestigious Rose d'Or Award for Best Entertainment program presented by Eurovision in Brussels.
It is the second Rose d’Or for Australian production company Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder, which previously won for its SBS series Go Back To Where You Came From.
Gruen Sweat was the four-part addendum to the successful ABC1 series The Gruen Transfer and aired on ABC1 around the London 2012 Olympic Games assessing the marketing around the event.
"What a thrill to be in Brussels to accept this prestigious award on behalf of ABC TV and all the cast and crew of Gruen Sweat,” ABC TV's Head of Entertainment, Jennifer Collins said in a statement. "And for Gruen Sweat to be recognised as the world class entertainment program that it is."
Co-creator and Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder Executive Producer Jon Casimir added: "Like ABBA and Lordi and Dana International, now we can finally put 'Eurovision winners' on our CV.
"This is a tribute to a bunch of people who've put so much effort into Gruen over the past five years. It's a tribute to the ABC, a supportive and loving partner in this unlikely venture. And it's a tribute to a viewing public which has pushed us to keep changing and, hopefully, improving.
"Obviously, nothing can make up for the pain of missing out on a Logie, but this will go a long way towards it."
The TV adaptation of the opera The Eternity Man was the first Australian program to win the European TV award, the Rose D’or, with previous nominees including John Safran’s Race Relations, The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce, The Librarians and and The Chaser’s War on Everything.
