Sky News Australia rolls out new streaming app for $5 per month
The news service is rolling out a new 24-hour streaming service in 2024 that will give Australians unlimited access to the station’s programs, including prime time shows.
Sky News Australia’s prime time programs hosted by the station’s biggest names including Andrew Bolt, Peta Credlin and Paul Murray will be available as part of 24-hour streaming and on demand on the station’s news website and app in 2024.
The new subscription streaming service will allow viewers to stream Sky News programs across its four dedicated news channels both live and on catch up for the first time.
The latest move by Sky News is set to further boost the network’s extensive reach: it is watched by more than 11.1 million Australians across broadcast and digital each month and remains Foxtel’s No.1 non-sport channel.
The service will be available to viewers for $5 per month from January and provide unlimited access to news and opinion programs, plus business, sport and weather information.
Sky News Australia’s chief executive officer Paul Whittaker said the move was critical to expanding the network’s digital strategy.
“We’ve seen exceptional growth across our digital platforms over the past few years as more than 8 million Australians seek out our content online each month,” he said. “The launch of the skynews.com.au streaming subscription service is a pivotal moment in the evolution of our digital strategy that will provide our highly engaged and growing online audience around-the-clock access to quality news, opinion and documentary content across four dedicated news channels.”
Sky News host Paul Murray said the new offering was “the easiest way there’s ever been for people to get Sky News in every part of the country”.
“The joy of the technology being launched means you can take Sky with you wherever you are and it will get it into the hands of many as people as possible,” he said.
The service will also have access to programs led by the station’s other top hosts including Sharri Markson, Chris Kenny, Rita Panahi, James Morrow, Rowan Dean, Erin Molan and Piers Morgan as well as political news led by chief news anchor Kieran Gilbert, political editor Andrew Clennell, business expert Ross Greenwood and news hosts including Laura Jayes, Peter Stefanovic and Tom Connell.
News and information on Sky News’s website and app will remain free.
The subscription service will include access to dedicated news channels produced by Sky News Australia including Sky News Australia, Sky News Extra, Sky News Weather and Fox Sports News. The content can also be cast to a compatible TV.
