Shane Warne’s eldest daughter has slammed Channel 9 after it was announced the network will be making an unauthorised biopic about the cricketing legend's life just months after his tragic death.

Warnie, a two-part telemovie, will depict the extraordinary life of the late spin king following his death in Thailand in March from a suspected heart attack.

The drama has been billed by a Nine as a tribute to Warne’s status as a “national treasure” and “international kind of icon”.

But a furious Brooke Warne questioned whether Channel 9 had any respect for her late father or his family in a fiery Instagram story post.

“Do any of you have any respect for Dad? Or his family,” she wrote on Wednesday night.

“Who did so much for Channel 9 and now you want to dramatise his life and our families life 6 months after he passed away?

“You are beyond disrespectful.”

The biopic has attracted plenty of controversy even since it came to light just weeks after Warne’s untimely death.

Warne’s long time manager James Erskine told the Herald Sun back in June that the family was “never approached for their blessing or input”.

“He’s only been dead for a couple of months and for them to turn this around and think about doing some sensational thing, well they should be ashamed of themselves,” Erskine said.

“I will be writing to Peter Costello because he is their chairman and saying, please explain.”

Warne worked for the Nine Network as a cricket commentator and analyst for more than 23 years.

He moved to Fox Sports in 2018 after Nine lost the broadcasting rights.

When Warnie was first announced back in March, Nine‘s head of content Andy Ryan said the biopic would be “a premium quality drama” that reflected Warne’s life.

“Like the man himself this miniseries will be larger than life, entertaining, confronting thought-provoking,” Ryan said.

“We want to explore what made Warnie so special and why he had such a powerful effect on people.

“He was a sporting legend, a national treasure, international kind of icon. He was also a larrikin, a rogue and a charmer and a flawed man.

“The national outpouring of grief over his passing had shown us, if we needed telling, just what a sort of impact he’s had on the national conversation.”

“He was an icon in all cricketing playing countries, but also all around the world.

“We will be making a premium quality drama with international appeal.”

The Herald Sun reported earlier this week the actor who has been cast as Warne is a “virtual unknown”.

Casting is also underway for actors to play Warne’s former fiancee Elizabeth Hurley and his ex-wife Simone Callahan.

Warnie will begin filming in Melbourne later this year and is slated to air in 2023.

Brooke posted an emotional tribute to her father on Tuesday on what would have been his 53rd birthday.

“Happy Birthday Dad,” she wrote.

“Today will always be Your day. I love you and I miss you.

“Cheers to you Dad.”
