Seven's programmers unearth unlikely crown jewel
THE Seven Network’s ballsy programming strategy scored again on Wednesday night.
THE Seven NetworkÂs ballsy programming strategy scored again on Wednesday night.
The network won the ratings by doubling up on its new family jewel, Winners & Losers, which rose beyond one million viewers for the second consecutive night (1.017 million), according to preliminary OzTAM data. The solid performance of the format its competitors believed to be nutty, Slideshow (814,000), continued, making gains on last week.
And an unlikely UK documentary, The Man With The Biggest Testicles, grabbed the metro audience by the short and curlies, holding an average audience of 805,000 in the 9.30pm hour and winning its timeslot.
Seven won the night with a 22.8 per cent metro channel share ahead of Nine’s 19.3 per cent and ABC1’s 13.9 per cent.
Ten managed a 10.8 per cent channel share in all people but its drama Wonderland felt the pinch against Winners and Losers, falling to just 420,000 viewers. However The Bachelor looks to have found a stable audience of 600,000-plus (612,000).
Nine News (1.137 million) and Seven News (1.096 million) were the top two programs of the day with A Current Affair averaging 1.019 million against Today Tonight’s 882,000, beating TT by more than 115,000 in both Sydney and Melbourne.
Gruen Planet dropped slightly on last week for ABC1 with 908,000 as comedy panel show Tractor Monkeys returned with 574,000 - more than 100,000 up on its first season’s average earlier this year, and Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery slipped to 613,000.
Nine’s Hot Seat also put some distance on Million Dollar Minute, averaging 613,000 in the middle of its "Heroes Week" as MDM fell below 540,000.
