More than 1.3 million people across the country watched actor Pia Miranda take the top prize on reality television show Australian Survivor on Tuesday night.

The Network Ten grand finale, which showed Miranda crowned victor after weeks of gruelling physical challenges, was Australia's third-most watched show after Seven's evening news and current affairs program, Today Tonight.

Across the nation's five biggest metropolitan cities, just over a million people watched Miranda awarded $500,000 in prize money.

Ten said the sixth season of Australian Survivor, which is hosted by actor Jonathan LaPaglia, broke audience records, with a national TV average audience of 1.06m, up four per cent from last year.

Its capital city TV average audience was up seven per cent to 823,000.

Network Ten's chief content officer Beverley McGarvey said Miranda played an “incredible and understated game”, and deserved to win.

A celebrity version of Australian Survivor will hit screens next year.
