New directors appointed to ABC and SBS boards

A lawyer and businessman and a defence industry contractor have been appointed to the ABC and SBS boards.

A Melbourne lawyer and businessman and a South Australian defence industry contractor executive have been appointed to the ABC and SBS boards by the Turnbull government.

Joseph Gersh, executive chairman of boutique investment firm Gersh Investment Partners, will serve on the ABC board for five years while Christine Zeitz, chief executive of Leidos Australia, joins the SBS board for the same period.

Mr Gersh, a Member of the Order of Australia for his services to business, government, the arts, is based in Victoria and was previously a senior partner and Chairman of the Management Committee of Arnold Bloch Leibler. He previously served as president of the Jewish Community Council of Victoria and is a director of the Sydney Institute.

Mrs Zeitz has more than 25 years’ experience with BAE Systems in a variety of senior roles, including as president of the Northeast Asia region in Tokyo. She founded the CEO Ladies Forum at the CEO Insights Executive group and is a board member of the Flinders University

ABC and SBS board appointments are chosen by a process that involves consideration of potential candidates by an independent nomination panel. Mrs Zeitz was recommended by the Panel for appointment and Mr Gersh was short-listed.
