SUNDAY Night executive producer Mark Llewellyn has officially been expelled from Seven’s flagship current affairs program.

Seven West Media CEO Tim Worner told staff today Llewellyn would leave his job after an “exhaustive” inquiry by Seven’s human resources department after he physically attacked a producer in the office.

Llewellyn, an experienced news producer, is alleged to have attacked producer Paul Waterhouse in the Sunday Night office in October. The fight spread from the Sunday Night newsroom into Llewellyn’s office where he ripped Waterhouse’s shirt.

Llewellyn was subsequently suspended. Andy Byrne has been filling the EP role temporarily although Worner is understood to have told staff Llewellyn’s position will be advertised. It is not clear whether Llewellyn will leave the network.

Sunday Night’s lead reporter, Ross Coulthart, is also believed to have left the show, disheartened by the circumstances surrounding Llewellyn’s blow-up.

Llewellyn left the Nine Network in similarly contentious circumstances in 2006 after rising up to run the network’s news and current affairs division.

He left to become executive producer of news and public affairs at Seven in 2006 and on the way out filed an explosive affidavit alleging then Nine chief Eddie McGuire discussed “boning” news presenter, Jessica Rowe.
