Fox News reporter Benjamin Hall says he is lucky to be alive after surviving a brutal attack by Russian forces while he was reporting on the war in Ukraine.

The 39-year-old British journalist last week shared a graphic image of himself on social media wearing an eye patch while lying on a stretcher and he detailed the injuries he endured in the devastating incident on March 14.

“It’s been over three weeks since the attack in Ukraine and I wanted to start sharing it all,” he posted on Twitter last week.

“But first I need to pay tribute to my colleagues Pierre and Sasha who didn’t make it that day.”

Hall was referring to two other Fox staff who were killed in the attack – veteran Fox cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski, 55, from Ireland, and Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova, 24, who was working as a consultant producer for the network.

The trio was struck while travelling in a vehicle near Kyiv.

Fox News Media chief executive Suzanne Scott paid tribute to Zakrzewski and Kuvshynova last month.

“Pierre’s talents were vast and there wasn’t a role that he didn’t jump in to help with in the field — from photographer to engineer to editor to producer — and he did it all under immense pressure with tremendous skill,” Ms Scott said.

“He was profoundly committed to telling the story and his bravery, professionalism and work ethic were renowned among journalists at every media outlet.

“Sasha was just 24 years old and was serving as a consultant for us in Ukraine. She was incredibly talented and spent weeks working directly with our entire team there, operating around the clock to make sure the world knew what was happening in her country.”

On Friday, Hall broke his silence on the attack.

“To sum it up, I’ve lost half a leg on one side and a foot on the other,” Hall tweeted.

“One hand is being put together, one eye is no longer working, and my hearing is pretty blown … but all in all I feel pretty damn lucky to be here — and it is the people who got me here who are amazing!”

The post – which has now been deleted – also included a photo of Hall recovering from the attack.

Reports show since the war in Ukraine began this year at least 14 journalists and media workers have died while covering the crisis.

Hall, who joined Fox News in 2015, is a British father-of-three and has been married to Australian businesswoman Alicia Meller for more than six years.

The couple has three children.

Hall was last month transferred from Landstuhl Regional Medical Centre in Germany to Brooke Army Medical Centre at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
