Veteran journalist David Marr will replace Phillip Adams as the host of ABC Radio National’s Late Night Live next month.

Adams, 84, announced he would be retiring early due to poor health after holding the coveted role for 33 years.

“I had always planned to die at my microphone, but I feel this would be unfair to the cleaners. So, I’m leaving the studio, Late Night Live and the ABC under what’s left of my own steam – with decades of happy memories,” he said.

Marr, 76, steps into the position as a Walkley-award winning writer, former Media Watch host, and investigative journalist at Four Corners.

“I’m honoured and terrified,” Marr said. “It’s going to be a ball”.
