Clive Palmer splashed out another $2 million on federal election advertising last week, taking the total to $33.7 million, as the billionaire businessman jockeys to secure a Senate seat.
The spending on ads across commercial television, radio and newspapers by Mr Palmer’s United Australia Party gazumps Liberal’s $260,000 and Labor’s $590,000 ad spending over seven days to April 21, according to data and analytics group Nielsen’s latest figures. The Greens didn’t spend any money last week.
In the previous week to April 14, Palmer’s UAP spent $2m, compared to the Liberals’ $315,000 and Labor’s $250,000. The Greens spent $5000.
Mr Palmer’s $33.7 million spending since last year in September is miles ahead of Liberal’s $6.16 million and Labor’s $6.29 million.
The UAP is expected to spend around $50m on political advertising by the end of the campaign, with more than three weeks until election day on May 18.
