NEP acquires Silk Studios

NEP Australia, which handles the outside broadcasts for most of Australia’s top live sports and entertainment events, has acquired Sydney’s Silk Studios.

NEP Australia, which handles the outside broadcasts for most of Australia’s top live sports and entertainment events, has acquired Sydney’s Silk Studios.

The studios will continue to trade under the Silk Studios name and operate separately to NEP’s main studios at Media City, Eveleigh. Financial terms were not disclosed. A raft of Sky News programs, including One on One with David Speers, Richo + Jones and The Nation, are filmed at Silk.

The Seven and Nine networks film live segments of The Morning Show and Mornings at Silk Studios, which is also the production company behind Aerobics Oz Style, CBeebies Storytime for BBC Worldwide and Mind Over Maddie for Disney Channel.

Silk Studios founder Harry Michaels said the move would give clients an “expanded level of service” in addition to existing shoot, edit, post-production and playout facilities. “Silk Studios has the facilities to handle any type of TV production, and we pride ourselves on removing worry from the equation,” he said.

NEP Australia CEO Keith Andrews said: “Demand for premium TV studio space in Sydney is robust, and we are delighted to welcome Silk, further expanding the comprehensive set solutions we can offer our clients.”

NEP, majority-owned by private funds managed by Crestview Partners, bought Global Television last year.
