Amber Harrison’s lawyer vows to fight Seven’s ‘extraordinary injunction’

The lawyer for Amber Harrison has vowed to fight Seven West’s “extraordinary injunction” against her.

The lawyer for Seven West boss Tim Worner’s former lover Amber Harrison, has vowed to fight an extraordinary injunction gagging her from speaking about her relationship with the TV boss and her dispute with the media giant.

Shane Wescott, of Patron Legal, said he was not intimidated by Seven’s aggression and legal firepower and had briefed barrister James Catlin, who has previously represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, to argue Ms Harrison’s case in court next Tuesday.

He said an order gagging Ms Harrison, made in her absence yesterday by NSW Supreme Court judge Robert McDougall, was “an extraordinary injunction, an ex parte injunction — it should be reserved for extraordinary occasions”.

The injunction was made amid an extraordinary online battle between Ms Harrison and Seven West director and former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett, who sparred on Twitter yesterday evening.

Twitter this morning has blocked 20 of Ms Harrison’s tweets from being seen in Australia, although they are still available to users elsewhere in the world.

It comes ahead of Seven West’s interim results, which Mr Worner is due to announce to the market tomorrow.

“We be using our limited resources on this side to see what we can do about the injunction,” Mr Wescott said.

“We’re reasonably confident it is too broad.”

Mr Wescott is a former criminal lawyer who represented Melbourne drug lord Tony Mokbel before switching to civil law.

He said he also represented Cronulla Sharks players in the club’s 2013 doping scandal.

“We’re facing a very well resourced, extremely litigious opponent who are certainly flexing their muscle,” he said.

“We’re used to dealing with aggressive opponents.”

Ms Harrison, whose affair with Mr Worner made headlines when it was revealed before Christmas, has been using Twitter to post documents and pictures to support her case against Seven for a fortnight.

Yesterday, Justice McDougall ordered Ms Harrison not to disclose any confidential information belonging to Seven, including “text messages, email communications, photographs and all other forms of electronic and physical documents”.

Unusually, he also barred her from “either directly or indirectly, giving any interviews to any medium or media, or from making, authorising or procuring any public statement, publication, off the record comment, background information, publications, press releases, press conferences, or from participating in social media” about matters including Seven, her departure from the company and her relationship with Mr Worner.
