Macquarie Radio’s 3AW rose 0.5 points to win Melbourne, with 13.7 per cent of the available listening audience, while talk and news rival ABC Melbourne was up 0.2 points to 8.3 per cent, the second survey of the year from survey firm GfK revealed.
3AW stars Ross Stevenson and John Burns at breakfast, and morning presenter Neil Mitchell, were steady on their dominant shares of 19 per cent and 13.9 per cent respectively.
New ABC Breakfast team of Jacinta Parsons and Sami Shah, replacing Red Symons, stemmed previous losses to attract a 10.0 per cent of listeners, while in Mornings, Jon Faine was one of the strongest performers, surging 1.5 to 12.3 per cent.
But in Sydney, Macquarie’s talk station 2GB was down 0.3 to 11.5 per cent, while ABC Sydney up 0.4 to 8.4 per cent.
At 2GB, Alan Jones continued to win Breakfast, while sliding 1.2 to a 14.3 per cent share, while Ray Hadley in Mornings was down 0.8 points to dominate the timeslot with a 13.3 share.
At ABC Sydney, the revamped Breakfast program, with Mornings presenter Wendy Harmer joining Robbie Buck, was down 0.6 points to 9.7 per cent, and Mornings, which also includes new program Focus with Cassie McCullagh and Conversations with Richard Fidler, rebounded to 7.9 per cent.
KIIS FM’s Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson spearheaded a KIIS FM surge in Sydney, with their breakfast slot rebounding from previous falls to be up 2.3 points to a dominant FM position of 14.3 per cent.
The station boasted a significant success in the hotly contested nationally networked Drive slot, with new duo Will & Woody, Will McMahon and Woody Whitelaw from Perth radio, surging 1.9 to 11 per cent of the available audience to be the number one Drive program in Sydney.
They leapfrogged traditional leaders in Sydney Drive Nova’s Kate Ritchie, Marty Sheargold and Tim Blackwall, on 10.2 per cent (9.3 in Melbourne).
Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek, who switched from the KIIS FM network to the SCA Hit network to replace Hamish Blake and Andy Lee, were up 0.3 per cent to 5.5 per cent share on 2Day FM in Sydney, but won in Melbourne with 13.4 per cent on Fox FM, in a slot that also includes The Project’s Carrie Bickmore and comedian Tommy Little.
At Triple M, new Drive show with Jane Kennedy and Mick Molloy was at 5.9 in Sydney and down 1.3 per cent in Melbourne to 7.4 per cent
In Sydney, 2Day FM’s nightmare breakfast slot, now hosted by EmRusciano, Ed Kavalee and Grant Denyer, and with a major change in its music format to include a mix of hits through the decades, rose 1.0 to a 4.4 per cent share.
