NINE'S risky decision to pick up Australia's Got Talent from Seven could be considered a mild success.

While the talent format hasn't reached the heights of My Kitchen Rules, The Block or The X Factor this year, the show has given Nine solid Sunday night family audiences.

And last night's season finale, in which band Uncle Jed was announced the winner, averaged 1.391 million viewers, whereas last year's finale on Seven had a mere 998,000 viewers. That said, last year's final episode was programmed against a Masterchef Australia finale. The 2011 AGT decider averaged 2.850 million viewers on Seven.

The episode proper last night averaged 1.166 million viewers to boost Nine to a nightly win in all people. It registered a 24.8 per cent channel share against Seven’s 20.3 per cent, Ten's 12.1 per cent and ABC1's 9.9 per cent.

Nine also scored with 60 Minutes, which averaged 1.279 million, and Nine News with 1.106 million.

Seven's best on Sunday night was Seven News with 1.174 million, followed by Dancing With The Stars, which averaged 1.075 million.

Network Ten benefited from the softer competition with new Working Dog panel show Have You Been Paying Attention? adding 119,000 viewers from its debut to 420,000, The Graham Norton Show registering its fourth consecutive rise (to 460,000), David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities adding 80,000 on last week and Elementary grabbing its best audience for eight weeks (692,000). It was reflected in its channel share among 25-to-54 year-olds of 16.0 per cent, only marginally behind Seven’s 17.9 per cent but trailing Nine's 26.3 per cent.

SBS ONE was up to a 6.5 per cent share as it continues its late-year rise, led last night by its documentary Rome: What Lies Beneath (404,000).

7mate recorded a 5.2 per cent share among multichannels, with Beverly Hills Cop the best show with 255,000.
