Wild weather is over, but south east Australia is expected to stay wet

The wild weather that brought major deluges to Victoria and southern NSW has eased, but the big wet is expected to continue.

The wild weather that battered south east Australia has subsided, but the majority of the east coast is expected to remain wet over the weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology has revealed north eastern parts of Victoria received a month’s worth of rain in the past 24 hours, with areas around Mt Buffalo recording up to 130mm.

Melbourne received an average of 43mm and a minor flood warning is in place for the Yarra River.

The BOM said the rain is moving into eastern New South Wales, but the falls there will not be as intense.

Wet conditions are expected across NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and parts of south eastern Queensland, while temperatures in the high 30s are expected to plague Western Australia over the coming days.

Sydney is expected to reach a maximum of 29C on Saturday, with a medium chance of showers in the afternoon and early evening. Wind gusts are expected to peak at 20km/h.

Showers in Melbourne are expected to ease over the morning, with the southern city expected to reach a top temperature of 21C.

In Brisbane, there is a medium chance of showers and a chance of thunderstorms later in the day, with the Sunshine State capital predicted to reach 31C.

Hot and windy conditions are expected for Perth. The city of the west is set to reach a max temperature of 35C and wind gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour.

Adelaide will be partly cloudy and tipped to reach highs of 26C, while Hobart will face showers and reach a maximum of 25C.

Darwin is likely to face thunderstorms and temperatures of up to 30C.

Canberra is expected to be wet and see a top of 27C.
