A man has been winched from a cruise ship after suffering a serious medical condition off the Australian coast.

A man has been winched from a cruise ship and flown to hospital after suffering a serious medical condition while working on board.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the Seven Seas Explorer cruise ship about 1.30am on Saturday.

The helicopter’s critical care medical team were winched onto the vessel, about 12 nautical miles east of Newcastle.

A male crew member, who was suffering a serious medical condition, was then treated by the medical team.

The man, aged in his 30s, was then flown to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.
