Tragedy as construction worker dies at work in Perth’s north
The man suffered a serious head injury while working on site, with reports he was struck by a piece of equipment that fell.
A construction worker has died in a horror workplace incident in Perth’s north.
Emergency services were called to a work site on the off ramp of the Mitchell Freeway near Warwick Rd in Greenwood about noon on Thursday.
A 35-year-old man suffered a serious head injury while working at the site.
St John Ambulance took the man to Royal Perth Hospital; however, the 35-year-old died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
A WorkSafe spokesperson told the Daily Mail that the man had been “struck by a piece of equipment that fell”, with WorkSafe commissioner Sally North extending her condolences to the 35-year-old’s loved ones, according to 7News.
The CFMEU’s WA branch confirmed the incident was the 10th death at a construction site across the state this year alone.
The union said its investigations had “only just begun”.
“We know that the incident involved an excavator and lifting equipment, (but) we’re not going to speculate on the tragic circumstances until we have the facts,” the union said.
“All we know is that a worker tragically did not return home today.”
