Man's alleged horror hammer attack

A Perth father has allegedly been struck with a hammer in a horror attack just outside his own home.

Police were called to a unit complex on Arbon Way in Lockridge about 2am on Thursday following reports a man was causing a disturbance.

It will be alleged the man struck a man in his 40s with a hammer on the shared driveway.

Nearby resident Jesse told 9News the victim’s wife and two young children saw the attack.

“The screams that she was letting out were just blood curdling, it wasn’t a typical scream,” Jesse said of the woman.

“It broke me. It’s something I will never forget.”

The victim was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where he underwent surgery for a fractured skull and broken jaw, according to 9News

Nurse Zipporah Bartocho told 9News the man sustained head injuries and she had to “put a bandage across his neck because his jaw was open”.

Police will also allege the 43-year-old man forced his way into a unit and had a physical altercation with a man inside.

He also allegedly damaged power boxes in the complex as well as other personal property.

The 43-year-old was slapped with a string of charges, including one count each of grievous bodily harm, aggravated home burglary and commit, common assault and breach of protective bail conditions.

He was also charged with 10 counts of criminal damage and destruction of property.

The man was set to front the Midland Magistrates Court on Thursday.
