The jersey to be worn by the AFL Indigenous All-Stars in their first match since 2015 has been unveiled
It’s been a decade since an AFL Indigenous All-Stars team came together and the electric group of players picked so far will be wearing something special.
West Coast star Liam Ryan beamed with pride as he modelled the all new jersey set to be worn by the star-studded Indigenous All-Stars team in February’s clash with Fremantle after the concept was brought back to life and says he’s hopeful it’s not a one-off event.
Ryan is one of 11 players already named, including Brisbane Lions premiership star Charlie Cameron, for the match, the first tie the Indigenous All-Stars have come together to play since 2015.
A decade ago the Indigenous All-Stars, captained by 400-game legend Shaun Burgoyne beat West Coast in front of a sellout crowd in Perth.
The line-up this time around already includes Norm Smith medallist Bobby Hill from Collingwood and former No.1 draft pick, Western Bulldogs star Jamarra Ugle-Hayden and Ryan said he hopes it “keeps going from now on”.
“Not every year, but every couple (of years),“ Ryan said.

“It would be really good for the communities around Australia. I grew up watching blokes like (Adam) Goodes and Lewis Jetta, and it was my dream to play in a game like this. It means a lot.”
The Indigenous All Stars team will wear the guernsey with artwork designed by First Nations muralist, Jade Dolman, who also designed the artwork for the Sherrins to be used in the match which could be an attacking frenzy according to Ryan.
“All us Indigenous boys know offence, but we don’t know defence,” he said.
“It’s going to be good fun.”
Fremantle FC will wear a guernsey with artwork created by 2007 Indigenous All Stars player and Fremantle great, Roger Hayden and his uncle Dr Richard Walley – the guernsey design was the Club’s inaugural Indigenous Round jumper in 2013.
The full All-Stars squad will be revealed in the coming weeks.
