Tornadoes not being ruled out as storms continue to lash Queensland

After copping a beating last week, more unpredictable weather is on its way with wild storms to lash Queensland.

The wet season has well and truly arrived in Queensland, with more wild storms and possible tornadoes on the way this week.

Residents across most of the state are being warned to prepare for more unpredictable weather.

Storms made their way across western parts of Queensland on Monday morning and are expected to lash the coast in the coming hours.

A “very dangerous” storm cell is expected to hit Noosa head on, while storms are also likely in the Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett regions.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Helen Kirkup said severe thunderstorms were possible anywhere from the Gold Coast north to the Capricornia region in the central part of the state.

“They won’t be quite as bad as last week,” she said, although she couldn’t completely rule out the possibility of more tornadoes.

Multiple tornadoes formed in different parts of Qld last week.

A cloud band hovering over much of Queensland is causing the instability and humidity, but residents should be in for a reprieve soon.

“Today and tomorrow look like the worst of it,” Ms Kirkup said.
