A man is fighting for life after he was shot in the chest during a hunting trip in south west Queensland.

The man, aged in his 50s, was taken to Cunnamulla Hospital, 790 km west of Brisbane, about 8.30pm on Tuesday in a critical condition.

The man was reportedly shot during a hunting trip.

He was later flown to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane by the Royal Flying Doctor Service for further treatment.
